Profile

Dr Marvin Chua is a Consultant in Endocrinology in the Department of General Medicine at Sengkang General Hospital. He received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore, completed his advanced specialty training in Endocrinology at National University Hospital and joined Sengkang General Hospital in 2018. Dr Chua sees a wide range of Endocrinology conditions including Diabetes Mellitus, thyroid disorders and osteoporosis, and has a subspecialty interest in obesity and lipid disorders.

Dr Chua is an integral member of the multidisciplinary Sengkang General Hospital Weight Improvement Therapy and Complete Health (SWITCH) program. He is a firm believer of the importance of public education and has given several public talks on obesity in both English and Mandarin, as well as a live radio interview. He has several research publications in the area of obesity, including the "clash of the two pandemics" – obesity and COVID-19 – and its far-reaching impact on both the patient and physician. In addition, Dr Chua is involved in the Familial Hypercholesterolemia Case identification, Assessment and Reduction in Adverse Events (FH-CARE) study, which is a national program for the screening of Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH). FH is a genetic disease that leads to high cholesterol levels and increases the risk of heart disease in young people, thus early diagnosis and treatment is essential.

Dr Chua has a keen interest in education – recognizing that obesity is an important topic which often does not receive adequate emphasis, he seeks to actively incorporate this into his teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
